Here’s Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins on Ja Morant’s recent stretch of high-level play (averaging 29.0 PPG/3.8 RPG/8.0 APG/8.0 FTA/1.5 SPG/47.1% FG/84.4% FT/+5.3 +/- over the last four games).

“Credit to him, his toughness on display last couple weeks, especially this last week here. Obviously the adversity we faced at the end of the last homestand, just taking ownership and continuing to lead. Lead with competitiveness. Lead with fight. Lead with his voice throughout the games. And just us spending more time in situations. Despite our roster rotations changing on the fly, he’s adapting. He and I’s communication, even more so him and his teammates’ communication (has) been phenomenal. I feel like he’s finding that burst. He’s finding his spots on the floor. He’s shooting with confidence.

“The three-ball’s gonna fall, but what he’s doing from the free throw line is huge. Getting up there, knocking those down at a really high clip right now. And then just the playmaking, his defensive activity in certain moments throughout the game, are impactful. So, I think it’s him taking lead right now. Him and Des [Bane] have been doing an unbelievable job, but especially in Ja’s case I love these performances throughout the game, but especially end of game in the last couple games.”
