The Golden State Warriors have made two roster moves today, converting guard Pat Spencer to a standard NBA contract and signing forward Braxton Key to a two-way contract. These moves aim to bolster the Warriors’ depth for the rest of the season.

Spencer, 28, has been with Golden State since February 2024, initially joining the team on a two-way contract. This season, he has appeared in 28 games, averaging 2.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in just 7 minutes per game. Spencer’s promotion to a full contract marks a key step in his NBA journey, after a strong start to his career following limited action as a rookie last season.

Spencer’s transition into a full NBA contract shows confidence from the Warriors’ coaching staff, who have seen value in his development over the past year. The guard has provided depth off the bench for Golden State, filling in when needed and bringing energy to the floor.

In a related move, the Warriors also signed forward Key to a two-way contract. Key, also 28, has impressed with the San Diego Clippers in the NBA G League this season, posting averages of 14.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game. His well-rounded game has caught the attention of Golden State, and he now has the chance to showcase his skills in the NBA.

Key has previous NBA experience, having played in 34 games over the past three seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Denver Nuggets. Despite not being selected in the 2021 NBA Draft, Key has made a name for himself with his versatility, playing as a forward capable of contributing across various facets of the game.

Standing 6’8″, Key adds size and athleticism to the Warriors’ roster. With his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, he provides depth in the frontcourt and will likely serve as an asset to Golden State’s bench.
