Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has one guaranteed year left on his contract, with a player option for 2026/27.

As he nears free agency, NBA executives are speculating whether the Hawks will extend him or if he could become a trade candidate, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Despite Young’s desire to win a championship in Atlanta, the Hawks have underperformed since their 2021 Eastern Conference Finals appearance, failing to progress past the first round.

They also don’t control their first-round picks in the next few drafts. Hawks ownership is looking to avoid the luxury tax in 2025/26, which may impact their ability to re-sign key players or add talent.

Trade discussions with the Pelicans involving Brandon Ingram were reported before the trade deadline, and Young’s future with Atlanta remains uncertain, with some speculating a possible trade request this summer.
