Sam Amick of The Athletic reported last week that earlier in the season, the Dallas Mavericks reached out to the Minnesota Timberwolves to explore the possibility of a trade involving Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards.

However, the Mavericks quickly shifted their focus to the Los Angeles Lakers, inquiring about a potential trade for Anthony Davis instead.

Additionally, veteran reporter Gery Woelfel, who covers the Milwaukee area, revealed that the Mavericks made a similar inquiry to the Milwaukee Bucks, discussing a potential deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In response to these rumors, NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line clarified his own sources, stating that he has consistently heard that the Mavericks only engaged in discussions about Doncic with one team: the Lakers.

While the Mavericks did reach out to both the Timberwolves and the Bucks, Stein emphasizes that those conversations were described to him as “very brief in nature” and that they were intentionally broad and vague, with no specific talks involving Doncic himself.
