Quentin Grimes delivered a career-high 44 points as the Philadelphia 76ers ended their nine-game losing streak with a 126-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night.
Grimes took over offensively, shooting 18-of-24 from the field and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc to help Philadelphia secure its first win since Feb. 4. The 76ers improved to 21-39, while Golden State, which had won five straight, dropped to 32-28.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 29 points and 13 assists and made headlines with his first dunk in six years. His one-handed slam cut Philadelphia’s lead to 109-104 midway through the fourth quarter, but the 76ers held on down the stretch.
Kelly Oubre Jr. contributed 20 points, while Guerschon Yabusele added 18 for Philadelphia. Paul George, in his first game since Joel Embiid was shut down for the season, finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
The 76ers’ offense clicked despite struggles from George and Tyrese Maxey, who combined to shoot just 8-of-27. Grimes took over in the second half, scoring 12 points in a seven-minute stretch as Philadelphia built a 15-point lead.
Golden State, playing without Jimmy Butler due to right mid-back spasms, fought back and tied the game at 116 with two minutes remaining. Grimes responded with a driving layup to put Philadelphia ahead.
After Moses Moody missed a three-pointer, Yabusele drained a corner triple to extend the 76ers’ lead to five, sealing the win.
Quenton Post added 16 points for the Warriors, while Gary Payton II had 15 off the bench. Draymond Green contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, but Golden State struggled with perimeter shooting, hitting just 12-of-42 (28.6%) from deep.
Philadelphia, on the other hand, shot 57.6% from three-point range, with Yabusele and Oubre combining for eight triples. The 76ers also dominated the glass, outrebounding Golden State 40-33.
