Former Los Angeles Lakers first-round pick Jalen Hood-Schifino has agreed to a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. The 21-year-old guard, selected 17th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, will now look to revitalize his career in Philadelphia.
Hood-Schifino appeared in just two games for the Lakers this season, averaging 2 points in 7 minutes per game. He spent much of his rookie year with the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate, developing his skills and gaining valuable experience.
The young guard was part of a blockbuster trade on February 2, that sent him to the Utah Jazz alongside draft picks. However, he was waived by the Jazz just five days later without making an appearance for the team.
Now, Hood-Schifino gets a fresh start with the 76ers, who are looking to add depth and young talent to their roster. A two-way contract allows him to split time between the NBA and the G League, providing an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level.
According to Adam Aaronson, Philadelphia will waive David Roddy to make room for Hood-Schifino.
The 76ers, currently 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-38 record, are in a rebuilding phase.
