Luka Doncic is embracing his new role with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the support from fans has made a strong impression on him.
“It’s amazing. I think the atmosphere has been amazing, even when I’m playing bad,” Doncic said, per Jovan Buha. “I don’t think I’ve had a good game here yet. But every time I check in, they cheer for me. So this is an unbelievable feeling to be here.”
Doncic, who turned 26 today, has been a key addition for Los Angeles, averaging 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists since joining the team. The Lakers have gone 4-2 with him in the lineup and are 16-4 over their last 20 games.
His latest performance came in a 111-102 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he contributed 21 points and 13 rebounds. LeBron James led the way with 33 points and 17 rebounds, while Austin Reaves added 23 points.
Los Angeles built a commanding 23-point lead in the second quarter but had to fend off a late rally. Minnesota, now 32-28, lost Anthony Edwards in the third quarter after he was ejected for picking up his second technical foul.
Edwards, who had 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, threw the ball into the stands after the call. If both technicals stand, he will be suspended for the Timberwolves’ next game, as he has now reached the league’s 16-technical foul threshold.
Without their All-Star guard, Minnesota relied on rookie Terrence Shannon Jr., who posted a career-high 25 points. Jaden McDaniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker combined for 29 points, but the Timberwolves couldn’t complete the comeback.
A 13-1 run cut the Lakers’ lead to 93-90 in the fourth quarter, but Doncic responded with a difficult three-pointer as the shot clock expired, putting Los Angeles ahead 98-91 with 3:37 left. James and Reaves closed out the game from the free-throw line.
James matched his season-high with 17 rebounds, while Reaves remained efficient, knocking down 11 of 12 free throws. Doncic overcame a tough shooting night to make an impact across multiple areas.
The Lakers finished the game shooting 41.5% from the field and outrebounded Minnesota 52-41. The Timberwolves struggled from deep, converting just 29.3% of their three-point attempts.
With the win, Los Angeles improved to 36-21, strengthening its hold on the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Minnesota, which has lost five of its last seven games, faces an uncertain outlook with Edwards’ possible suspension.
Doncic continues adjusting to his new surroundings, but his appreciation for Lakers fans is clear. His presence has helped Los Angeles remain one of the hottest teams in the league, and as the chemistry grows, so does the Lakers’ potential in the playoff race.
