Luka Doncic had an eventful first matchup against the Dallas Mavericks since being traded, and a lighthearted exchange with Mark Cuban added to the drama.

During the game, Cuban playfully booed Doncic whenever he touched the ball, prompting the 25-year-old star to fire back. “Mark, shut up,” Doncic said, drawing laughter from those nearby, according to former NBA player Chandler Parsons on Run It Back.

Doncic recorded his first triple-double as a Laker, posting 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists in Los Angeles’ 107-99 win over Dallas on Tuesday night. Despite struggling with his shot, making 6 of 17 attempts, he made key plays down the stretch, including an assist to LeBron James that sealed the victory.

James finished with 27 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, helping Los Angeles secure its third consecutive win. Austin Reaves added 20 points, while Rui Hachimura contributed 15.

Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks with 35 points, while Klay Thompson scored 22. However, Dallas shot just 35.7% from the field and was out-rebounded 57-45. P.J. Washington Jr. failed to score in 34 minutes, missing all nine of his shots.

The Lakers (35-21) have won 13 of their last 16 games, holding onto fourth place in the Western Conference. The Mavericks (31-28) have fallen to ninth place as they continue adjusting to life without Doncic.

Crypto.com Arena fans chanted “Thank you, Nico!” in reference to Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who faced criticism for trading Doncic to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis. Davis, sidelined with a groin injury, received a standing ovation when the Lakers honored him with a tribute video.

Doncic’s triple-double was the 81st of his career and his fourth of the season. His last one for Dallas came on December 15, adding another layer of emotion to his return.

Los Angeles controlled the game early, leading 28-20 after the first quarter, with Doncic grabbing eight rebounds in the opening frame. Dallas responded with a 31-point second quarter but struggled with efficiency, falling behind in the second half.

The Lakers shot 44.8% overall but had a tough night from beyond the arc, making just 11 of 40 three-point attempts. Still, their size advantage proved crucial as they dominated the boards and controlled the paint.

Both teams will meet once more this season in Dallas, where Doncic is expected to receive an even louder reception from Mavericks fans.
