The New Orleans Pelicans have signed Jalen Crutcher to a two-way contract, bringing him back to the NBA after a strong G League run. NBA insider Michael Scotto reported that Crutcher’s signing coincides with Brandon Boston Jr. being converted to a standard NBA deal.

Crutcher has been a standout for the Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron, averaging 18.1 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds this season. His scoring and playmaking ability earned him another shot with New Orleans, where he previously signed a 10-day contract in February.

The 25-year-old guard went undrafted in 2021 before joining the Charlotte Hornets for training camp. He later played for the Greensboro Swarm and eventually found his way to the Squadron. Despite multiple signings and waivers, Crutcher has remained in the Pelicans’ system, making his NBA debut last season in a brief appearance.

New Orleans currently sits 14th in the Western Conference with a 15-43 record, making them likely lottery-bound. With the team out of playoff contention, Crutcher could get more opportunities to prove himself at the NBA level.

His return to the Pelicans comes as they continue evaluating talent for the future. If he can replicate his G League success, Crutcher may earn a more permanent spot in the NBA.
