The Golden State Warriors have increased their salary obligations for the 2025-2026 season by acquiring and extending Jimmy Butler’s contract. Despite this financial commitment, the organization remains resolute in retaining Jonathan Kuminga as he approaches restricted free agency.
“Absolutely,” affirmed Warriors owner Joe Lacob when questioned about their continued interest in Kuminga. “One hundred percent. Are you kidding me? I love that guy. We love him.”
Kuminga is notably one of Lacob’s favorites within the organization, a sentiment reflected in the fact that his name has been largely absent from trade discussions.
“Anybody can be traded,” Lacob acknowledged. “Anybody. Well, almost anybody. But we would never do that unless it was something incredibly significant. Incredibly significant. I think players understand that.”
Jimmy Butler also spoke about his outlook on playing alongside Kuminga, expressing optimism about their on-court chemistry. “I figure we’ll spend a lot of time together,” Butler said.
“I would like to think I’ll make his job a lot easier and he’ll also make my job easier. He’s another individual they’re going to have to guard, they’re going to have to pay attention to. Then on defense, you got another quote, unquote ‘MFer’ that can switch, that can challenge shots, that can get out into the open floor.”
