New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns has been diagnosed with a bone chip in his thumb, an injury he sustained during the team’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on January 14, according to Peter Botte and Stefan Bondy of New York Post.

Despite the setback, Towns plans to continue playing through the pain, as he is considered day-to-day. The Knicks officially ruled him out of their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 15.

Towns, who has been a dominant force for New York this season, is averaging 25.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 34.7 minutes per game. His presence has been key to the Knicks’ success, but his absence in the game against the 76ers did not prevent the team from securing a 125-119 victory.

Jalen Brunson was outstanding in Towns’ absence, scoring 38 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading the Knicks to a crucial win. Brunson’s performance helped New York improve to a 27-15 record, solidifying their position in the competitive Eastern Conference.

Josh Hart also made his mark, recording his 11th career triple-double with 10 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists. His all-around contribution was instrumental in the Knicks’ win, as they faced off against the 76ers in a rematch of last season’s playoff series.
