The Boston Celtics (28-12) suffered a disappointing 110-97 defeat to the Toronto Raptors (10-31) on Wednesday night, and Jayson Tatum did not hold back in his assessment of the team’s struggles.
After the game, the Celtics star bluntly stated, “We’re going through some sh*t right now,” acknowledging the team’s recent issues.
Toronto snapped a 10-game losing streak to Boston, earning its first victory over the Celtics since March 28, 2022. RJ Barrett led the Raptors with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jakob Poeltl added 16 points and 11 boards, while Scottie Barnes chipped in with 18 points and nine assists.
Boston’s offense had an off night, shooting just 39.6% from the field and 34.8% from three-point range. Tatum struggled with his shooting, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists on 5-of-15 shooting. Despite solid performances from Peyton Pritchard, who led the Celtics with 20 points, and Kristaps Porzingis, who added 18 points, Boston couldn’t overcome their poor shooting.
The Celtics’ three-point shooting woes were evident, as their starting five combined for just 11-of-39 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Toronto capitalized on the Celtics’ struggles, shooting a much more efficient 50.6% from the field. The Raptors’ bench also contributed significantly, scoring 39 points, with Bruce Brown and Jamal Shead adding 7 and 8 points, respectively.
Tatum’s statement reflects the mounting frustration in Boston, as the Celtics have gone 7-7 since their hot 21-5 start to the season. Their recent inconsistency has been apparent, with lackluster performances from their bench and a reliance on their starters, who were inefficient on Wednesday night.
