Trae Young put on a show in Atlanta’s 122-117 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, scoring a season-high 43 points. The performance helped the Hawks improve their record to 20-19 while halting the Suns’ three-game winning streak.

Young, who was listed as questionable for the game due to illness, demonstrated his scoring ability, hitting six three-pointers and converting 11 of 14 free throws. “It seems like now guys are more worried about my passing than my scoring. Sometimes, you gotta remind them that you can score too,” Young said after the game, via ClutchPoints.

The Atlanta star played a key role in the first half, where he and Garrison Mathews combined for eight three-pointers, propelling the Hawks to a 64-56 halftime lead. Mathews contributed 19 points off the bench, while Onyeka Okongwu added 22 points and a career-high 21 rebounds.

For Phoenix, Devin Booker led the charge with 35 points, including a season-high seven three-pointers. Kevin Durant added 31 points, 14 of which came in the third quarter, along with nine rebounds and six assists. Despite their individual efforts, the Suns were unable to overcome the Hawks’ dominance in the paint and on the boards.

The Hawks capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 20 points in that category thanks to Okongwu’s relentless work inside, including 10 offensive rebounds. Atlanta’s defense also limited the Suns to 37.1% shooting from beyond the arc, disrupting Phoenix’s perimeter game.

Young, who is averaging 22.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and a career-high 12.1 assists this season, acknowledged the team’s collective effort. “We can go out there, make some noise, and make some plays. That’s what we did tonight,” he said. “But we always have to give a little bit more, including myself.”

As the Hawks continue to battle for playoff positioning, their win over Phoenix was a reminder of their potential, even with key players sidelined.
