The NBA has officially postponed Saturday night’s scheduled games between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers, due to the ongoing and devastating wildfires impacting the Los Angeles area.

The league has stated that new dates for the postponed games will be announced at a later time. As the situation remains fluid, the NBA has not confirmed whether additional games will also be postponed.

In a statement, the league emphasized its commitment to supporting wildfire relief efforts and ensuring that local emergency services can focus on combating the crisis:

“The NBA and the Clippers and Lakers organizations have been in communication with local officials in Los Angeles and Inglewood about the ongoing situation in the Los Angeles area, and the game postponements ensure no resources will be diverted from the wildfire response efforts,” the league said.

In addition to the postponements, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) have announced a combined $1 million donation to organizations providing immediate relief to those affected by the wildfires.

The funds will go to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and other humanitarian organizations actively working in the area to support evacuees, provide food and shelter, and aid first responders.

The wildfires have caused widespread disruption in the region, with thousands of residents forced to evacuate and extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
