Memphis Grizzlies guard Marcus Smart is progressing in his recovery from a partial tear of the proximal extensor hood in his right index finger, but he remains week-to-week, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. Smart sustained the injury during the Grizzlies’ December 21 game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The 2022 NBA Defensive Player of the Year was diagnosed with the injury in late December and was expected to be re-evaluated in two weeks. The Grizzlies are hopeful that Smart’s recovery will allow him to return to the court soon, but his status remains uncertain for the time being.

This season, Smart has appeared in 18 games for Memphis, contributing an average of 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 21.2 minutes per game.

The Grizzlies are currently third in the Western Conference with a 24-14 record, just 1.5 games behind the Houston Rockets. They trail the Oklahoma City Thunder by 7.5 games.
