Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has responded to the fiery criticism delivered by NBA legend Charles Barkley during TNT’s Thursday night coverage. Redick, known for his outspoken views, kept it short and to the point with his reply: “Literally don’t care.”
The tension between the two NBA figures began when Redick criticized the current state of NBA media coverage. He argued that the quality of coverage was negatively affecting the way fans viewed the game, contributing to a decline in interest. While Redick did not directly target Barkley or TNT in his remarks, the veteran analyst took the comments personally and fired back on air.
“Y’all heard JJ Redick said something about me?” Barkley began, clearly fired up. “JJ, you better calm down, ‘cause when you come for the king, you better not miss. He said something about we’re the reason people ain’t watching this crappy product we got. Yeah, us, like we’re out there jacking up 100 threes a night. JJ, you come for the king, you best not miss, ’cause I can get you, brother.”
As expected, Barkley didn’t stop there. In true form, the outspoken analyst quickly shifted gears to discuss the Lakers. This has long been a favorite topic for Barkley, especially when the Lakers are struggling.
“Remember, I got your Lakers games; you can’t hide them flaws they got,” Barkley said, targeting Redick’s team. “You just a dead man walking – they got rid of Frank Vogel, who did a good job; they got rid of Darvin Ham, who did a good job. You came out there thinking you were gonna change things with that same ugly girl you went on a date with – the Lakers stink.”
