Panathinaikos has solidified its future by extending Mathias Lessort’s contract through the 2027-28 season. The reigning EuroLeague champions announced the deal on Tuesday, ensuring the All-EuroLeague center remains a key part of their roster.
Lessort, 29, has been instrumental for the Greens, delivering standout performances in his second season with the team. Before suffering a broken fibula earlier this season, he averaged 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 17 games.
The injury will keep Lessort sidelined for several months. His performances reaffirmed his status as one of Europe’s top centers, following a successful campaign that helped Panathinaikos clinch the EuroLeague title last season.
Lessort’s career spans six EuroLeague seasons with five clubs, including stints at Crvena Zvezda, Bayern, Maccabi, Partizan, and now Panathinaikos. His impressive resume also features a EuroCup championship with Monaco in 2021, as well as national titles in Serbia, Greece, and the Adriatic League.
Internationally, Lessort has been a cornerstone of the French national team, earning silver medals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the European Championship and a bronze at the Basketball World Cup.
