The San Antonio Spurs earned a 96-87 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, with Victor Wembanyama leading the charge. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for San Antonio and lifted their record to 16-15.
Wembanyama delivered an all-around performance, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks. The French center came alive in the third quarter, scoring 11 points, including three 3-pointers, to fuel a decisive 22-9 Spurs run that turned a two-point halftime deficit into a 69-58 lead.
Jeremy Sochan contributed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, providing crucial support on the glass. Julian Champagnie added 18 points off the bench, and Keldon Johnson chipped in 15 points and six boards to bolster the Spurs’ offense.
Despite a brief scare in the third quarter when Wembanyama exited after a collision with Jalen Wilson, the Spurs held firm. Wembanyama later returned to the game after passing concussion protocols, helping his team secure the victory.
Brooklyn (12-19) dropped its ninth game in the last 12 outings. Keon Johnson led the Nets with 25 points, while Shake Milton added 16 points and a season-high 12 assists. However, the Nets’ depleted roster, missing Cam Johnson and Ben Simmons, struggled to find consistency.
The Nets shot just 38.9% from the field, marking their lowest-scoring game of the season. Jalen Wilson and Nic Claxton each scored 11 points but were unable to provide enough offensive firepower to overcome the Spurs’ second-half surge.
Wembanyama’s defensive impact was once again evident as he notched at least four blocks for the fifth straight game. The 7-foot-4 center has now recorded a 3-pointer and a block in 22 consecutive games, further showcasing his versatility.
