Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis recently addressed comparisons between his team and the Los Angeles Lakers. Portis, fresh off helping the Bucks secure their first NBA Cup title by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder, emphasized the selfless nature of Milwaukee’s roster.
“We’re not Hollywood,” Portis said in an interview with The Athletic. “We have hard-working guys [who are] selfless and who give themselves up for the betterment of the team. It’s not about the points you score. It’s all about winning, being connected.”
Portis drew a stark contrast between the Bucks and the Lakers, highlighting the importance of teamwork in Milwaukee. “Our group is different from their group. We’re just different in that regard of selfless guys that give themselves up. You can’t really compare the two teams—not at all,” he added.
The Bucks have shown resilience after a challenging start to the 2024-25 NBA season. Their current 14-11 record places them fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. The Lakers, meanwhile, hold a nearly identical record at 14-12 but sit 10th in the Western Conference.
Portis’ comments underline a growing sentiment about the Bucks’ identity. Unlike the Lakers, often associated with star power and a “Hollywood” spotlight, Milwaukee has built its success around hard work and collective effort.
The Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, have faced challenges with consistency this season. Despite a similar win-loss record, the Purple and Gold have struggled to find their rhythm in a competitive Western Conference.
