For the first time in league history, the NBA All-Star Game will adopt an innovative format, transforming into a mini-tournament featuring four teams and three games.

The competition will kick off with two semifinal matchups – Game 1 and Game 2 – where the winners will advance to a championship showdown in Game 3.

Each contest will have a unique scoring rule: the first team to reach or exceed 40 points will be declared the winner, ensuring high-energy, fast-paced games.

The tournament will feature four teams, each comprising eight players. Three of these teams will be formed from the 24 NBA All-Star selections, which will be divided evenly.

The rosters for these teams will be determined live during the NBA All-Star Draft, scheduled for Thursday, February 6, just before TNT’s doubleheader that evening.

Legendary TNT analysts and honorary general managers Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith will select their rosters for Team Chuck, Team Shaq, and Team Kenny, respectively.

The fourth team, known as Team Candace, will consist of the winners of the Castrol Rising Stars championship game. This annual event showcases the best first- and second-year NBA players along with standout talents from the NBA G League.

Scheduled for Friday, February 14, as part of the NBA All-Star 2025 weekend, the Rising Stars game will determine which group earns the right to compete in the All-Star tournament. WNBA legend and TNT analyst Candace Parker will serve as the honorary GM for Team Candace.

The coaching staff for the tournament will include the head coaches from the NBA teams with the best regular-season records in their respective conferences through Sunday, February 2.

These coaches will lead two of the All-Star teams. Meanwhile, assistant coaches from the same leading teams will take charge of Team Candace and the remaining All-Star squad.

This reimagined format also comes with significant financial incentives. The four teams will compete for a prize pool of $1.8 million. Players on the championship-winning team will each receive $125,000, while those on the runner-up team will earn $50,000 each.

Participants on the teams finishing in third and fourth place will take home $25,000 apiece.

Despite the changes to the game structure, the selection process for the 24 NBA All-Stars remains unchanged, with fans, players, and media voting to determine the pool of participants.
