Euroleague Basketball has announced significant changes to its awards structure, placing greater emphasis on the regular season. The modifications, which take effect in the 2024-25 season, introduce a clearer distinction between regular season and playoff performances.
Several awards, including the EuroLeague MVP, Best Defender, Rising Star, and Coach of the Year, will be determined solely by regular season results. Previously, these awards factored in playoff and play-in performances as well.
The Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy, which rewards the player with the highest scoring average (minimum 21 games played), will continue to rely purely on statistical performance.
For the first time in two decades, the All-EuroLeague First Team, Second Team, and MVP will also be announced at the end of the regular season. The voting process remains unchanged, with head coaches and team captains contributing 35% of the vote each, media votes accounting for 20%, and fan votes making up the final 10%.
In addition to these changes, EuroLeague has introduced a new accolade: the Play-in Showdown and Playoffs MVP. Unlike other awards, Euroleague Basketball will directly decide the winner based on both individual and team success in the postseason.
The MVP of the Month award will now exclusively consider regular season performances. Due to scheduling, March and April will have a combined MVP award since only two games will be played in April.
Meanwhile, the MVP of the Round will continue to be awarded to the player with the highest PIR (Performance Index Rating) among players whose teams secured a victory. As before, the EuroLeague Final Four MVP will be chosen by media members present at the event.
