Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics to a 112-98 win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday night, scoring 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The victory marked Boston’s seventh consecutive win over Washington and improved their record to 21-5.
Tatum, who recently dealt with a knee issue, returned to form, helping the Celtics secure their third victory in Washington this season.
Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each contributed 15 points, with Pritchard sinking five three-pointers. Kristaps Porzingis added 11 points in just 11 minutes before exiting due to right heel pain. Despite missing key players like Al Horford (rest), the Celtics’ depth proved sufficient.
The Wizards, now 3-21, were led by Jordan Poole’s 21 points. Bilal Coulibaly added 19 points and six assists, while Justin Champagnie recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Washington, however, suffered its third straight loss and has dropped 16 of its last 17 games.
Boston’s defense was key in the first half, holding the Wizards to just one free-throw attempt while forcing 16 turnovers overall. The Celtics also dominated the glass, outrebounding Washington 56-51 and scoring 13 second-chance points.
Sam Hauser scored 12 points off the bench, hitting four three-pointers, while Luke Kornet chipped in seven points and 11 rebounds. The Celtics shot 43% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc, making 18 three-pointers.
For Washington, Carlton Carrington posted a solid stat line with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but the team’s shooting struggles continued. The Wizards made just 13 of their 40 attempts from three-point range and were outscored 24-8 at the free-throw line.
