As the trade deadline approaches, Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat remains uncertain. NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the Golden State Warriors are currently the most likely team to engage in meaningful trade discussions for the 35-year-old star.

Stein notes that while other teams, such as the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, have shown little interest in pursuing Butler, the Warriors’ commitment to acquiring a star has positioned them as the top contender for a potential deal.

Miami, despite its reservations, is said to be willing to move Butler if the offer is right, particularly as the six-time NBA All-Star nears free agency.

The Warriors, fresh off acquiring Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets, have reportedly expressed a keen interest in further bolstering their roster. Schroder’s expiring contract, valued at $25.4 million, gives Golden State the flexibility to aggregate his salary in a trade, making a deal for a high-profile player like Butler feasible.

Butler, now in the second year of a three-year, $146.4 million deal, is known for his leadership and clutch performances. This season, he has been a key contributor for the Heat, averaging 19 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 32.1 minutes per game.

Despite his individual success, Miami’s 13-11 record places them fifth in the Eastern Conference, leading to questions about their long-term direction.

Reports indicate that Butler may be eyeing new opportunities, with league insiders speculating that he could bypass his $52.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season in order to become a free agent in 2025. This potential decision has added urgency to Miami’s plans, with the Heat looking to secure fair value for the star before the February 6 trade deadline.

The Warriors, currently sitting sixth in the Western Conference with a 13-10 record, have proven their ability to compete for championships in recent years. Adding a player like Butler would provide a significant boost to their roster.
