Victor Wembanyama, the highly touted rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, was sidelined during the team’s 140-113 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Friday due to low back soreness. The injury leaves him listed as day-to-day, and the Spurs are cautiously monitoring his progress.

Wembanyama seemed to aggravate the issue during Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, particularly on a play where he was called for a charge against Bradley Beal. However, Spurs assistant coach Mitch Johnson downplayed the idea that a single moment caused the discomfort.

“I don’t think [the injury] was on a certain play. I’m sure that play didn’t help. But I don’t think it was one particular play,” Johnson explained.

Despite the setback, there is optimism within the Spurs organization. Johnson expressed hope that Wembanyama could be ready to return to action as soon as Sunday, though the team will prioritize his health and long-term readiness.
