Former NBA star Stephon Marbury has publicly addressed and denied a fake quote attributed to him about LeBron James. The quote, posted by the parody X account NBACentel, falsely claimed Marbury described LeBron as “overhyped” and dismissed his achievements, including his Rookie of the Year honor.

The fabricated quote quickly gained traction on social media, sparking discussions among fans. However, Marbury clarified the situation in an interview with journalist Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. He emphasized that while he has spoken on LeBron in the past, he never made the comments in question.

“I’ve had this page blocked for a while,” Marbury stated, referencing the parody account. He explained how he initially questioned whether the quote was taken out of context before concluding it was entirely fabricated.

Marbury criticized the tactics used by some social media platforms, calling them efforts to generate clicks rather than meaningful discourse. He also expressed agreement with James’ known stance against social media negativity, referencing James’ decision to limit his online activity.

The confusion surrounding the fake quote was likely fueled by the parody account’s name, NBACentel, which resembles the legitimate account NBACentral. NBACentel, despite its satirical nature, has amassed over 230,000 followers and frequently shares fabricated quotes.
