The Houston Rockets are taking a patient approach regarding a potential trade for Kevin Durant, with many believing the team may wait until the offseason before making any serious moves.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, whispers out of Houston suggest that the Rockets, currently 9-4, are focused on developing their roster and may not consider trading any of their recent prized draftees until later.
This strategy is widely seen as a way for Houston to see if Durant, a long-time target of the franchise, becomes available down the road.
Despite Phoenix’s insistence that they want to keep Durant in the desert, the Rockets are reportedly closely monitoring the situation.
Durant, in the third year of his four-year, $194 million contract, has yet to sign an extension with Phoenix.
At 36 years old, Durant continues to perform at a high level, averaging 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 38.8 minutes.
Phoenix is currently 9-5 and remains one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
For Houston, the wait could be worth it. The Rockets have been cautious in their approach to trading their young assets, focusing instead on player development
The team’s recent success, with a strong 9-4 start to the season, has fueled this patient strategy, with Houston hoping to build a competitive roster without rushing into trades.
