Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is urging his team to step up its maturity and consistency, as the team faces a challenging start to the 2024-25 season.
After advancing to the Western Conference Finals last year, the Timberwolves currently hold an even 6-6 record, placing them 11th in the Western Conference.
Edwards’ frustration follows a recent string of disappointing losses, including two back-to-back defeats to a depleted Portland Trail Blazers squad missing several key players.
“We got the answers. The coaches give us … the answers,” Edwards stated, as reported by Chris Hine of The Minnesota Star Tribune.
He emphasized that despite receiving clear guidance from the coaching staff, the team has struggled to execute on the court. “We just not doing it as a team, one through 15,” Edwards continued.
He noted that the staff prepares the players with specific instructions ahead of each game, but that it’s ultimately up to the players to apply those directives effectively on the court. “We got to mature, man,” Edwards added, stressing the need for a more disciplined approach.
The Timberwolves’ struggles have also raised questions about the team’s chemistry following a major offseason trade.
Minnesota traded All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
While Randle has shown glimpses of his All-Star form, the Timberwolves’ recent losses have sparked discussions about whether the revamped roster can find a winning rhythm.
Edwards’ call for maturity reflects growing concerns among the Timberwolves’ core players about consistency and accountability.
