A wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Donnie Nelson against the Dallas Mavericks has been “dismissed with prejudice,” as stated in court documents from Dallas County filed last week.

The case, which was scheduled to go to trial in December, has now come to an end without any further litigation, signaling that the dispute has been resolved outside of court.

“The parties have reached a resolution of their dispute on confidential terms,” said Rogge Dunn, Nelson’s attorney, in a statement to ESPN. This suggests that both sides have come to an agreement, though the exact terms remain undisclosed, and no further legal action will be pursued.

Nelson, who served as the Mavericks’ longtime president of basketball operations, was fired in June 2021.

In his lawsuit, Nelson accused the Mavericks organization of firing him in retaliation for reporting an incident that allegedly involved Mark Cuban’s “right-hand person” sexually assaulting Nelson’s nephew during the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend.

Nelson claimed that his decision to report the alleged assault led to his dismissal, framing the termination as an act of retaliation for his actions.

This dismissal ends a legal battle that had garnered significant attention, especially given the serious nature of the allegations.

While the terms of the settlement remain confidential, the resolution marks the conclusion of this chapter in the ongoing legal proceedings involving the Mavericks and Donnie Nelson.
