Skip Bayless recently shared that ESPN reprimanded him for a comment he made about not drafting American white centers like Meyers Leonard in the lottery.
According to Bayless, he received a call from ESPN’s PR department, where a representative expressed frustration, asking why he brought up race in his analysis.
Bayless explained that his opinion was based on a 20-year trend he’d observed, where American white centers drafted in the lottery hadn’t panned out as expected, backing up his view with specific examples.
The PR representative suggested that he could’ve made his point without referencing race, to which Bayless responded that, in this context, race was central to his argument.
