Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will not require surgery after suffering a wrist injury during the Bulls’ recent road win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Ball, who only returned for the 2024-25 season after a two-year absence due to a knee injury, was forced to leave the game in the first quarter.
Following an MRI, Ball shared that he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 to Grade 2 wrist sprain. According to Bulls reporter K.C. Johnson, Ball’s MRI results indicated that continuing to play could have escalated his injury to a Grade 3 sprain, which would likely have required surgery.
Instead, Ball and the Bulls have opted for rest and rehabilitation, and he will be re-evaluated in 10 days. “If he kept playing, it could’ve advanced to a Grade 3 sprain,” Johnson tweeted. For now, Ball will focus on lower-body conditioning while his wrist heals.
This season, Ball has averaged 4.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists across 15.7 minutes per game. His return was seen as a significant boost for the Bulls after his extended recovery from a knee injury, which included multiple surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
