After a hard-fought 120-114 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards delivered a candid postgame interview, reflecting on his team’s performance and his own role on the court.
Despite leading all scorers with 37 points and setting a record with 24 points in the first quarter, Edwards expressed frustration over the Timberwolves’ missed chances and his own challenges battling for rebounds. In his postgame remarks, Edwards acknowledged his responsibility in the team’s rebounding struggles, saying, “I’m big as hell; I’ve gotta be able to box those bigs out.”
The game saw Minnesota briefly seize an early lead behind Edwards’ scoring surge, but the Mavericks made defensive adjustments, slowing Edwards in later quarters. Dallas used their defense to create scoring opportunities, capitalizing on Minnesota’s 20 turnovers, which translated into 25 points for the Mavericks.
Kyrie Irving powered Dallas with a 35-point performance, including a 16-point third quarter, while Luka Doncic added 24 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, solidifying the Mavericks’ dominance in the final minutes. Doncic’s clutch three-pointer from 33 feet with just over a minute remaining ultimately pushed Dallas’ lead to eight points, sealing the victory.
Edwards, however, did not shy away from personal responsibility. “They do a good job of getting those offensive rebounds, man. I’ve gotta figure it out. Maybe I’ve gotta ask Rudy [Gobert] what I need to do,” Edwards remarked, referring to his teammate and seasoned defender, Gobert, for advice on improving his presence in the paint.
Free-throw accuracy also posed a challenge for the Timberwolves, with Edwards himself going just 6-for-12 from the line, a factor that stunted Minnesota’s chances to capitalize on their early momentum. Meanwhile, Dallas maintained their defensive intensity, with P.J. Washington and Spencer Dinwiddie coming off the bench to contribute key rebounds and steals.
Edwards himself admitted to lapses in focus, referencing “immature stuff” such as falling unnecessarily on the court and getting caught up in interactions with referees.
The Timberwolves, now at an even 2-2 record, will look to recalibrate and build on Edwards’ strong offensive showing as they prepare for upcoming matchups.
