Quentin Grimes has opted to decline a three-year contract offer from the Dallas Mavericks, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. This decision follows discussions about a new deal, which was believed to mirror Dallas’ recent three-year, $27 million agreement with Naji Marshall.

Grimes, now set to enter restricted free agency, aims to leverage a successful debut season alongside stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. His hope is that strong performances will yield a more lucrative contract in restricted free agency after the 2024-25 season.

The 24-year-old guard was traded to the Mavericks in July, with Dallas acquiring him in exchange for Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks. During his three-year NBA career, Grimes has averaged 8.5 points per game, showcasing a 37.1% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

Last season, Grimes averaged 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while playing for both the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons.

Entering the 2024-25 season, Grimes has started off slowly, averaging only 1 point and 1 rebound in 10.5 minutes over the first two games. This performance may factor into the Mavericks’ assessment of his long-term fit with the organization.
