The Boston Celtics received their 2024 NBA Championship rings ahead of their season opener against the New York Knicks at TD Garden. The rings, designed by Jason Arasheben of Jason of Beverly Hills, mark a special collaboration that involves the Celtics’ long-time rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Arasheben, who has designed championship rings for teams like the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Rams, was initially hesitant to pursue the Celtics’ project due to his loyalty to the Lakers. His career in fine jewelry took off when he created the Lakers’ 2009 championship ring, and he feared taking on the Celtics would create animosity within the Lakers organization.
“I was afraid this would upset the Lakers,” Arasheben admitted in an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on Scoop B Radio. “I wanted to get Jeanie Buss’ permission before going after this deal.”
Fortunately, Arasheben received full support from Lakers owner Jeanie Buss. Not only did Buss give her blessing, but she also personally contacted Celtics co-owners Wyc Grousbeck and Emilia Fazzalari to vouch for Arasheben’s work. Buss’ endorsement helped Arasheben secure the deal to design the Celtics’ 18th championship ring, beating out competitors like Tiffany & Co. and Jostens.
The result was a stunning ring that reflects both the Celtics’ storied legacy and the personality of the city of Boston. Crafted from rose gold and encrusted with diamonds, the ring features etchings of all 18 Celtics championships. It honors legends like Bill Russell, Larry Bird, and Kevin Garnett while celebrating the current generation of stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
In addition to commemorating past triumphs, the ring also highlights the Celtics’ 2024 playoff run. It includes the series matchups from the playoffs, where Boston defeated the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the first two rounds and swept the Indiana Pacers 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. The ring also notes the Celtics’ 4-1 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
One of the ring’s unique features is a twist-off top, revealing a Celtics 2024 NBA Championship banner inside. Another intricate detail includes a replica of the scoreboard from Game 5 of the Finals, displaying the final score of 106-88. Each player’s ring is personalized with their jersey number encrusted in diamonds, along with the Celtics’ team slogan, “Whatever It Takes.”
Arasheben’s connection to the Lakers makes the story behind the ring even more ironic. As a lifelong Lakers fan who has designed rings for both the Kobe Bryant and LeBron James eras, Arasheben found himself bridging the gap between the two most storied franchises in NBA history.
Despite the rivalry, Arasheben also counts Celtics players like Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Jayson Tatum as clients. The jeweler’s ability to set aside his Lakers loyalty to create a masterpiece for Boston proves that, just like the Celtics’ slogan, he was willing to do “Whatever It Takes” to deliver a spectacular ring.
