Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone expressed his concerns about the team’s conditioning as the 2024-25 NBA regular season approaches. His frustration came after a disappointing 124-94 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder during a preseason game.

Malone’s comments reflect a broader concern within the league regarding player conditioning. “The league has gotten so soft. Everybody’s afraid to condition and run. Well, we have to,” Malone stated, via Harrison Wind. His remarks were made in response to the lack of fitness displayed by some of his players, which led him to rely heavily on his starting lineup during the game.

The Nuggets starters played extended minutes, particularly throughout the third quarter. Malone’s dissatisfaction with his players’ physical preparedness was evident, indicating that he expects more from the roster as they gear up for the season.

Despite the loss, Malone remained resolute about the team’s potential. He acknowledged the need for improvement but emphasized that there is no reason to panic. “There are concerns, of course. We have lots of areas that we can improve upon, but I know that when we’re fully healthy, we have a chance,” Malone explained, via Ryan Blackburn.

With the regular season just around the corner, all eyes will be on Denver to see if the players respond to Malone’s challenges. The Nuggets are expected to bring a high level of intensity as they aim to improve on last season.
