Chicago Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis is making waves early in his NBA journey. The 19-year-old forward reflected on his experience during the Bulls’ training camp, describing it as a challenging yet valuable learning opportunity.

“It was a tough training camp, but I learned a lot,” Buzelis told RG.org in a sit-down interview. The rookie explained that he expected intense competition, given the high level of talent in the NBA, and highlighted how he quickly adapted to the pace of professional basketball.

Buzelis was selected 11th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. The 6-foot-10 forward was projected as a top-five pick before slipping to his hometown team. Despite the drop, Buzelis has embraced the opportunity, showing a keen desire to learn and grow.

In his preseason debut, Buzelis posted 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 21 minutes off the bench. His performance offered a glimpse of the potential that made him a highly sought-after prospect. He also played a key role defensively in a 116-112 preseason victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, using his length to contest a final shot and seal the win.

Buzelis emphasized the importance of reading the game both offensively and defensively, noting that the fast-paced nature of NBA basketball demands quick decision-making and high-intensity play. “It was just a lot of running, a lot of conditioning,” he said.

Despite the demanding nature of the camp, Buzelis expressed optimism about his development. He acknowledged that competing against some of the best players in the world has been a steep learning curve but one that has accelerated his growth.

The Bulls coaching staff has also been impressed with his work ethic and willingness to adapt. Buzelis, known for his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting and playmaking, has focused on improving his defensive presence and conditioning to keep up with the demands of the NBA game.
