LeBron James had a prime view as he watched his son, Bronny James, make his debut in the NBA competition. In his first game, Bronny contributed two points, going 1-of-6 from the field, but impressed defensively with a team-leading three blocked shots. Though his shooting numbers weren’t eye-catching, Bronny’s presence on defense showcased his potential at the next level.
“For him, it’s obviously an adjustment,” LeBron said. “Every rank that you climb, it’s always an adjustment to get used to it. When he went to high school, from middle school from high school to USC and now to the pros, it’s always an adjustment to make. The more time he’s out on the floor with pros, the speed, the cadence, you get better and better the more time you put on the floor.”
LeBron emphasized that Bronny is still in the process of adjusting to the pro game, particularly after dealing with health challenges. “And you’ve got to think that he lost pretty much a third of last season because of the (heart) condition,” LeBron noted, referring to the cardiac issue that sidelined Bronny for a significant portion of last year.
Despite the setback, LeBron praised his son’s steady improvement. “But he’s gotten better and better every day. He continues to put the work in.”
As a veteran, LeBron understands the responsibility he and other experienced players have in guiding Bronny and their younger teammates. “It’s up to us as the veterans and the guys out here to try to help him, help Dalton (Knecht), help all the young guys to get him better and better every day to help them accomplish what we want to accomplish,” LeBron added.
With Bronny working to adjust and regain his rhythm, LeBron is optimistic about his son’s growth as he continues to adapt to the professional level, trusting that time on the court and veteran guidance will accelerate his development.
