The New York Knicks have brought back franchise legend Patrick Ewing, hiring him as a basketball ambassador.
In this newly created role, the Hall of Famer will work closely with both the basketball and business operations departments, serving as a bridge between the team and its community, as well as assisting in player development, fan engagement, and brand promotion efforts.
Ewing’s return signifies a meaningful reunion for the Knicks and one of their all-time greats. Drafted first overall in 1985, he played 15 seasons in New York, becoming an 11-time All-Star and leading the team to multiple deep playoff runs, including an NBA Finals appearance.
ESPN’s Malika Andrews and Chris Herring were the first to report the news, noting that Ewing’s presence is expected to further strengthen the Knicks’ connection with their storied past while also providing guidance and mentorship to the current roster.
The move underscores the Knicks’ efforts to blend their historical success with their present and future aspirations.
“As I said the day my number 33 jersey lifted into the rafters at MSG, I will always be a Knick and I will always be a New Yorker,” Ewing said. “I can’t wait to get started in this new position and to officially be back with the organization I love so much.
“The Garden has always been my home and I’m looking forward to working with (president of basketball operations) Leon Rose, Coach (Tom) Thibodeau, the team and everyone else that makes this place so special.”
