Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has shared his reaction to the recent trade that sent his teammate and friend Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks.
Speaking during Timberwolves media day, Edwards expressed his emotions, saying, “I think everybody knows KAT [is] my brother. So that definitely hurts, but you know, it’s a business, so I just have to roll with it.”
The trade, which took place in the offseason, sent Towns to New York in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. The move marks the end of an era for Minnesota, as Towns had been with the team since being drafted first overall in 2015.
Last season, Edwards and Towns were key players in the Timberwolves’ deep playoff run, where the team reached the Western Conference Finals. Their chemistry on the court had been a cornerstone of the franchise’s success.
While Edwards acknowledged the difficulty of seeing his teammate go, he remained focused on the future of the team and getting to know his new teammates.
The Timberwolves’ new additions, Randle and DiVincenzo, bring a different dynamic to the team. Randle, a three-time All-Star, is known for his scoring and rebounding ability, while DiVincenzo offers solid defense and three-point shooting.
For Minnesota, the trade signals a shift in strategy as the team looks to capitalize on Edwards’ continued development. The 23-year-old rising star had a breakout season last year, averaging 25.9 points per game and earning his first All-Star selection. With Towns gone, Edwards will likely take on an even larger role as the face of the franchise.
As the Timberwolves prepare for the upcoming season, expectations remain high. Despite the loss of Towns, the team’s strong playoff performance last year has fans hopeful that the addition of Randle and DiVincenzo can help push Minnesota further in the postseason.
