Bronny James recently shared his thoughts on a notable moment during a Los Angeles Lakers scrimmage when his father, LeBron James, scored on him.
During Lakers media day, Bronny was asked to describe what happened during the play. “I’ll break it down a little bit,” Bronny said with a smile. “He just got switched on, kind of mid-post area on the dunker, and spun baseline and went up and under.”
Bronny, who was selected 55th in the 2024 NBA Draft, found himself defending his father, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, during the team’s practice. Bronny explained his attempt to stop the move. “I jumped on the strong side backboard, and he went up and under.”
Despite LeBron successfully scoring on the play, Bronny was quick to point out a detail that may have gone unnoticed. “The refs that were reffing that game… his foot stepped on the line a little bit,” he added, implying that he believed he made a good defensive play. “I got that stop,” he said with a grin. “I believe I got that stop, but it is what it is. In year whatever year he is, he’s gonna get that call.”
The moment between father and son in the scrimmage highlighted the unique dynamic in play as Bronny embarks on his NBA career alongside his father, who is entering his 22nd season.
LeBron James, who turns 40 in December, remains one of the most dominant players in the league. With the addition of his eldest son to the Lakers roster, the 2024-25 season brings an extraordinary family dynamic to the team.
As the Lakers gear up for the season, all eyes will be on how Bronny adapts to the NBA and how he and LeBron will navigate playing together. For Bronny, the opportunity to learn directly from his father is invaluable, while for LeBron, this is a chance to share his final NBA seasons with his son.
