NBA insider Shams Charania provided insights on The Pat McAfee Show into the Los Angeles Lakers’ strategy for their No. 55 draft pick, Bronny James.

Charania stated that the team remains uncertain about Bronny James’ role within the roster, saying (h/t HoopsHype), “They don’t know exactly where Bronny James is going to totally fit into their roster yet.”

He emphasized that the Lakers will assess Bronny’s fit during the upcoming training camp.

“The G League season is going to start a little bit after the NBA gets underway, and then they’re going to have to figure out a plan,” Charania added.

He explained that second-round picks often spend time developing in the G League.

“I do think that that is going to be a part of the full Bronny James development plan,” he concluded.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick has expressed high regard for Bronny’s potential as a basketball player and indicated that the G League will be part of his development.

Bronny’s college career at USC was met with criticism regarding his performance. He averaged only 4.8 points per game over 19.3 minutes, ranking as the eighth-leading scorer on the team.

Critics have debated the legitimacy of his draft position. Some have suggested that nepotism may have influenced the Lakers’ decision to select him.

In the NBA Summer League, Bronny faced additional scrutiny from observers. He averaged 8.8 points per game while shooting 35.0% overall and 15.8% from three-point range. These statistics have fueled discussions about his readiness for the professional level.
