Mitchell Robinson is expected to miss the start of the 2024-25 NBA season as he continues to recover from foot surgery in May.
While both Robinson and the New York Knicks are aiming for a potential return in December or January, the team remains cautious about bringing him back too soon. The Knicks are emphasizing patience in his recovery, prioritizing his long-term health.
Despite the absence of Robinson, the Knicks feel secure with their depth at center. Although they lost Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency, head coach Tom Thibodeau has plans to adjust the team’s rotation.
Julius Randle, typically a power forward, is expected to see an increase in minutes at center to help fill the gap. Additionally, OG Anunoby is anticipated to contribute defensively against opposing centers, offering versatility on the defensive end.
Robinson’s injury occurred during the playoffs when he sustained a stress injury to his left foot. This setback followed an earlier surgery on the same foot in December.
The Knicks are confident that with the current roster adjustments and Robinson’s eventual return, they can manage the situation as the season progresses.
