Rudy Gay recently addressed the controversy surrounding LeBron James’ influence on the Los Angeles Lakers selecting his son, Bronny James, with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Gay discussed the issue during an appearance on Scoop B Radio with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people about it,” Gay said. “And I see no problem with it, man. I mean, who doesn’t want to help their kids out?”
The criticism stemmed from concerns over nepotism, particularly after Bronny’s college career at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points per game in 19.3 minutes, ranking as the eighth-leading scorer on his team.
Bronny also faced scrutiny for his Summer League performance, which saw him average 8.8 points per game on 35.0% shooting from the field and 15.8% from beyond the arc.
Gay remained optimistic about Bronny’s future, stating, “I think he’ll be a good pro. I think he’s going to have a good career, but, you know, everybody needs a push every now and then.”
