New Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick “really believes in Austin Reaves,” according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

Windhorst shared this insight on The Hoop Collective podcast, emphasizing that Redick plans to give Reaves significant opportunities on the court.

Reaves, entering his fourth season with the Lakers, had a breakout year in the 2023-24 season, averaging 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.

The 26-year-old guard signed a four-year, $53.8 million contract last offseason, making him a key part of the Lakers’ future.

Redick’s faith in Reaves could lead to an expanded role for the guard as the Lakers aim to improve upon their playoff performance from last season.

“I just know that JJ really believes in Austin Reaves. And I think he’s gonna try to put him in position to be successful,” Windhorst said.

Reaves’ ability to contribute across multiple facets of the game makes him a valuable asset for the Lakers.

With Redick now at the helm, the team is expected to embrace fresh strategies, and Reaves could be a central figure in that evolution.

While LeBron James and Anthony Davis remain the Lakers’ primary stars, Reaves’ continued development may offer crucial support.

Redick, known for his basketball IQ and dedication to the game, is expected to lean on young talents like Reaves to help drive the Lakers forward.
