Los Angeles Lakers legend Michael Cooper recently discussed the team’s decision to draft Bronny James, LeBron James’ eldest son, during an interview on Scoop B Radio with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.

Cooper expressed strong support for the move, highlighting the significance of the Lakers drafting Bronny at No. 54 earlier this summer.

The five-time NBA champion praised the decision, calling it “one of the greatest things to happen.” He emphasized the historic nature of LeBron James potentially playing alongside his son in a Lakers uniform, noting that LeBron has already achieved so much in his career and that this father-son pairing would add another unique chapter to basketball history.

“First, LeBron James, his father, has done so much for the game of basketball, now. He is the first player to ever play with his son and why not do it in a Laker uniform?” Cooper said.

Addressing criticism of the move as an act of nepotism, Cooper dismissed such claims, arguing that Bronny was selected based on his talent and potential, not just because of his famous last name.

“When you’re that good, people try to find little knicks and knacks about you,” Cooper said. He believes that Bronny has the potential to make a significant impact on the Lakers in the future, regardless of his family ties.

The discussion around Bronny’s selection has been a topic of much debate, with some fans and analysts questioning whether his draft position was influenced by his father’s legacy.

However, Cooper’s comments suggest that the Lakers see real value in Bronny as a player and that his selection was a strategic move aimed at strengthening the team in the long run.
