Joel Embiid has hinted at a potential switch in national teams, suggesting he could play for Cameroon in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Philadelphia 76ers star, currently representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has yet to play for his home country despite being one of the NBA’s most prominent players.

Embiid, aged 30, chose to compete for the United States after strong interest from both France and the U.S.

Team USA is set to face France in the final, having advanced by defeating Serbia in a dramatic semifinal. Embiid’s performance has been a key factor in the team’s success against the Serbs.

Looking ahead to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Embiid expressed a possibility of playing for Cameroon.

“It’s been a good experience. It’s been a grind, being away from home and family for a few weeks. But the group of guys we have made it easy. Paris is a great city and the next one is LA. It might not be with Team USA, it might be with Cameroon,” Embiid said, via Ron Kroichick.

Embiid’s comments have sparked speculation about his future international commitments. If Cameroon qualifies for the Olympics and he is granted permission, this move could mark a significant shift in his international basketball career.
