Lauri Markkanen has expressed his excitement following his $238 million extension with the Utah Jazz.
The new deal includes $220 million in fresh money over five years, significantly increasing his earnings.
Markkanen, who previously had one year remaining on an $18 million contract, will see his 2024-2025 salary rise by an additional $24 million.
The extension adds four more years and $196 million to his contract, with no options included.
This agreement also prevents Markkanen from being traded for six months, ensuring he cannot be moved until after the February 6th trade deadline.
The Finnish forward, who averaged 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2 assists last season, will remain with the Jazz through at least the next offseason.
Markkanen reacted positively to the news, stating, “They’ve all showed their belief in me, from the ownership to the front office to (coach) Will (Hardy).”
He added, “It’s a comfortable environment and those guys’ resumes speak for themselves. I trust the organization to help grow me as a person and a player, to build our team and I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
