Jontay Porter, the former Toronto Raptors center, seeks to revive his career in Greece after being banned by the NBA for gambling on his team’s games.
Porter pled guilty to one federal charge connected to his gambling activities and now hopes to play for Promitheas in Greece’s top league, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.
A lawyer for Porter is requesting a federal judge to allow him to play professionally this upcoming season in Greece.
Porter’s sentencing is scheduled for December 18, and he faces 41-51 months in prison based on sentencing guidelines.
Despite this, Porter aims to travel to Patras, Greece, where he intends to live in team-approved housing with his wife and their expected son.
Porter’s new team has agreed to accommodate his need to travel back to New York for his court obligations.
The letter filed by his lawyer states that Porter would be closely supervised by his mother, mother-in-law, and his new team.
