Stelmet Zielona Gora notched their first win of the Euroleague season by surprising Panathinaikos 71-68 in Group C.
The Polish champions had to survive a late scare but last-gasp three-point attempts by Dimitris Diamantidis and Sasha Pavlovic both missed the target and the hosts could celebrate.
Mateusz Ponitka recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds for Stelmet Zielona Gora as they move level with Panathinaikos on 1-3 records.
“We had more luck today,” said Zielona Gora coach Saso Filipovski. “I believed to the end. It was a tough game with emotions and nerves. I am very happy, but remember that it is one game. We have our next games and must continue to work hard.”
At the top of Group C, Lokomotiv Kuban maintained their unbeaten run with a 72-53 win against Panar Karisyaka Izmir.
Trailing 35-30 at half-time, the Russian side stormed out of the blocks by holding their Turkish counterparts to just nine points to take a 52-42 advantage going into the final quarter.
Malcolm Delaney and Evgeny Voronov each paced Kuban’s attack with 15 points.
Ante Tomic led Barcelona to touching distance of Lokomotiv Kuban as they won 85-78 away to Zalgiris in the third Group C encounter.
Croatian international Tomic led the Liga Endesa side with 18 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Unicaja Malaga remain unbeaten in Group D after seeing off winless Dinamo Sassari 80-62.
The Italians had led 37-36 at the half, but Unicaja then exploded for a mammoth 24-0 run in the third that ultimately put the game to bed.
Richard Hendrix led the winners with 19 points, with Will Thomas adding 14.
Fenerbahce were never troubled seriously as they beat Crvena Zvezda 74-60 in the Serbian capital of Belgrade.
Pero Antic hit three triples, en route to 14 points.
“You know it is so hard to play against a team you like, but I am proud and with a help from the best coach in Europe we won,” Antic said afterwards.
