Jaycee Carroll came up with some late heroics to give Euroleague champions Real Madrid a 101-99 win over Bayern Munich in Group A.

Carroll buried an open three with 3.1 seconds remaining and Madrid defended Bayern’s last-gasp attempt at the buzzer to claim the win that improved the holders’ record to 2-2 in the group.

But for large portions of the contest, it looked like Real Madrid would be in trouble, as Bayern ended the third quarter with a 10-0 run to take an 81-73 cushion going into the final period, but the Liga Endesa side showed champion-like spirit to fightback and ultimately take the win.

“Our strong points were the final two minutes, in which we were really aggressive,” said Real’s Rudy Fernanadez, who had 20 points. “We played very good defence in the first quarter and this is when we got an 11-12 point lead.

“After that, maybe because we were tired or for things beyond our control, they returned to the game, hit three-point shots in transition and played really well. We trailed most of the way after that until those final two minutes, in which we improved and had a final shot to win the game. We knew it was a difficult group. We already lost two games on the road and if we had lost this game, things would have been really difficult for us. We have to be happy with the win.”

Felipe Reyes also added 20 points with Sergio Llull posting 18.

Bayern were led by Nihad Djedovic’s 22 points, as they go to 2-2 in the group, level with Real.

Khimki continued their impressive run in this season’s Euroleague as they led from tip-to-buzzer en route to an 88-62 win over Strasbourg.

Tyrese Rice and Alexey Shved each scored 16 points to lead Khimki as they go to 3-1 in Group A, good enough for first place at least until Friday’s round of games.

“I’m happy that we’ve won,” Khimki coach Rimas Kurtinaitis said. “As I had said before, it was very important to win all the games at home and try to get some wins on the road. Now we go on our schedule. I’m happy with the quality of the game, as it was good defence and sometimes really great offenses. That was exactly what we wanted.”

Laboral Kutxa needed overtime to get the better of Anadolu Efes as a 92-90 win was good enough for a 3-1 record in Group B.

Derrick Brown tipped in for Anadolu Efes to force overtime when it looked like Baskonia would nick it in regulation, but a 7-0 run in overtime was enough despite a late scare.

Ioannis Bourousis led Laboral Kutxa with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Olympiacos join Laboral Kutxa at the top of Group B after the Greek side made easy work of French challengers Limoges 75-49 in Piraeus.

Georgios Printezis led a balanced Olympiacos attack with 15 points and both Vassilis Spanoulis and Patric Young posted double doubles. Spanoulis totaled 10 points and 10 assists and Young amassed 13 points, 10 rebounds.

Limoges drop to 1-3 in the group as Randy Culpepper led the visitors with 10 points.

Cedevita Zagreb are also in the Group B mix after they showed their giantkiller-like material once more in beating EA7 Milano 77-68 in the fashion hotspot.

With the game tied at 61-61, Cedevita took it upon themselves to go on a game-changing 13-2 run to seal a second road win of the season to go to 2-2, while Milano fall to an unexpected 1-3.

Miro Bilan once again showed his touch by leading the Croatian side with 16 points.

CSKA Moscow are still perfect in Group D after they bested Darussafaka Dogus 80-75 in Istanbul.

On a night where Istanbul opened its doors to another brand new arena, Milos Teodosic made the Volkswagen Arena his own with a sublime, all-round display to finish with 22 points and nine rebounds. Nando De Colo added 19.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv’s troubles worsened after they lost 77-66 away to Brose Baskets in the other Group D encounter.

A triple on the third quarter buzzer by Sylvan Landesberg gave Maccabi a 57-51 lead going into the fourth as they aimed to protect their advantage, but Bamberg were not going quietly and a 12-0 reply was enough for the German side to record the win and go to 2-2 in Group D, while the 2014 champions surprisingly go to 1-3.

Daniel Theis led the winners with 16 points and seven rebounds.
