Donovan Mitchell, the star guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, finds himself ineligible for end-of-season NBA awards due to a new league rule.

As per the NBA’s updated regulations, players must participate in a minimum of 65 games to qualify for prestigious accolades like the MVP and All-NBA selections at the season’s conclusion.

Mitchell’s absence from 18 games this season places him on a growing list of prominent players who won’t meet the criteria, a revelation shared by Brett Siegel on X.

Siegel’s tweet highlighted a roster of notable names, including Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Julius Randle, Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal, and Jamal Murray who are also rendered ineligible due to insufficient game appearances.

Mitchell, a five-time NBA All-Star and previously recognized as All-NBA Second Team, is averaging 28 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 35.7 minutes per game.
